The present group currently has a repertoire of five original songs. Artistic Director Don Rickenback conducts Sunday rehearsals in New Canaan, CT as needed, based upon the performance schedule, which so far has varied from two to four performances a school year. In its first year, the Magical Music Singers performed four times: at the Foundation's annual spring fundraiser, on the Mainstage of the Tribeca Film Family Festival (both of which could become a yearly performance opportunity), at a NYC Magical Music for Life Showcase and as a featured performing group for One Town . . . One Voice, a New Canaan community concert produced by Magical Music for Life to benefit "Operation Home Delivery" of Habitat for Humanity. $153,000 in donations, ticket sales and pledges were raised at that event. Singers should be able to blend and hold harmony lines in an SATB format as well as have solo singing capabilities. It is not mandatory to be able to read music, though it does help. The singers should also be able to move well, as there is some 'show choir' type staging of songs. The JUNIOR SINGERS The Junior Singers has been a group of 7 or 8 girls, ages 8 to 11, who have performed for the 2005 and 2006 annual fundraisers for the Magical Music for Life Foundation as well as for MMFL's NYC Showcase and One Town . . . One Voice community concert. The girls also had a wonderful experience recording the foundation's song "Two Little Snowflakes" in 2005. Future plans for the Junior Singers include performing "Two Little Snowflakes" as a musical playlet, expanding their two song repertoire and enlarging the group to include more treble-voiced singers, both male and female, grades 4 through 6. Junior Singers should be able to hold a vocal line in two-part singing. |
